Default Squirrel opener just days away!!!

Opening day for Kansas squirrels is Tuesday, June 1st.
Anyone going out?

I'm gearing up. I traded up for a better .22 and a scope, zeroed in, and even invested in a squirrel call. Bushytails beware!

Squirrels are my newfound hobby. During my scouting forays into the woods for deer last fall, squirrels were everywhere so I started taking an old .22 along. I'd been wanting to learn stillhunting as well and realized squirrels were the perfect way to practice. Good way to sharpen the shooting eye, too.

Indeed, we do have it good here. Our season actually runs till the end of February and darn few people hunt squirrels (or rabbits, for that matter). Pheasant and quail get the attention.

Today, I was in the area I'm going to hunt and saw a BIG fox squirrel sitting on a log. He's ready!

I always look forward to squirrel season. But man, it's so hot come August! And the flies, gnats, and those nasty skeeters are so thick you have to shove them out of your way. I kinda wonder why I love it so much

I have a new Savage Mark II with a bull barrel waiting to down his first squirrel. I can't wait.

Sadly, I only saw one squirrel and didn't get him. Oh well...

I did see a big doe and suggested we meet again in December, same place.
