Default preserving hide?

i am verry new to the trapping scene. and i see these pics where there are 50 hides hanging on the side of a barn. my question to you all is how do you preserve your hides until you sell them? do you have to learn how to tan them yourself? i am mostly just wanting the hides for myself? any info would be great!

Once you scrap them of all the fatty tissue, put them on the right board, let them dry. Once dried store them in a cool place till you send them out to get tanned.

I salt mine for at least three days I scrape them then salt them srape em than salt em and I just repeat that until all the blood and unwanted tissue and fat are gone, and then I hit them with a mallet to soften them up. ( careful not too punch a hole in the hide) dont beat it to thin.
