Default Box Trap for Coyotes..ideas?

Well, after seeing deer all of October and November on my trail cam, they basically have disappeared and been replaced with 2 giant coyotes. Thinking about next deer season, I want these 2 big guys out of here. Heres the catch, I hunt an area in the greater Chicagoland area (yes, its legal) that consists of Bow only hunting. It is private land but there are houses that border two sides of the property, therefor a shotgun/rifle can't be used. I wouldn't mind leg trapping these SOB's but have to settle for a box trap then a .22 to the head or Carbon Monoxide poisoning via my tailpipe.

Since I only have a few options, I think Im going to try and box trap these guys in the next month. Does anyone have any plans for a box trap? I have a lot of 2x2s laying around so I thought Id put together something like I did when I was a kid for raccoons. some 2x2's and some chicken wire always worked for me with raccoons and possums. If nobody has any plans I wouldn't mind some help on dimensons you think I should go with as well. Also, I wouldn't mind some trigger set Ideas. I was thinking a line attached to a chicken leg that goes to a door via a couple eye loops but am up for any ideas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think if I can get rid of these two it would really help with deer numbers and keep more deer around my stand. Thanks everyone!

Place deer carcass out and place cable restraints or snares if allowed on the trails leading to the deer.

if it were me, i would use a snare right where you see they coyotes traveling. a deer stop 4inches from the end of the snare will keep any deer in the area from getting caught

Here is a hog trap, you can get from Tractor Supply.
I gues you could build it yourself for a lot less.

The Voorhies Outdoor Products, LLC. Hog Trap is just the thing you need to help rid your land of any feral hog problems.
  • High quality trap with 3 individual root type doors
  • No trip wires to set, no springs or latches
  • Hogs simply push through doors
  • Easily fits into truck bed for transport
  • 6 ga. wire mesh 4 in. x 4 in.
  • 1.5 in. steel angle frame
  • All welded construction
You could rig up a trigger, so when the coyotes get inside, the door closes.

Here is the link, so you can see if its worth it, or to build it.

Good Luck getting rid of the coyotes.

Good luck getting a coyote to go in that. Do you have a trapping liscense? You will need that to use any kind of trap for the furbarer. You would be better off using footholds or snares if legal were you live.

Snare Traps are illegal in Illinois except for water sets for Beaver I would use a leg hold if It were me or try calling and shoot with your Bow that is a good time just camo up and sit still
