Impossible to tell from the photo. Badgers have dark markings on the head and chucks have a dark tail. I cannot tell which way the critter is facing. Badgers are protected in Michigan and you can shoot chucks any time. But all badgers I have seen are mostly grey.

It looks like a hog. If it is shot it. It looks sick. I would take it to the DNR.
