I' m new to bowhunting, only been at it a couple years, but I' ve got buddies who have hunted small game with bows and from what I' ve heard its a challenge. The guys I know who are into this just use field tips which they say has no problem taking down a squirrel with a solid hit. Wish I could help you more, but I don' t have any personal experience bowhunting small game. I' m glad you asked the question though, might try it this fall to sharpen my skills.

Hi Paul W;
I just use my regular field tips for small game. When I am bow hunting deer though. I have a few arrows tipped with a 30-30- brass glued on to the arrows. These I use for Ruffed Grouse that frequently walk around my blind.

I' d suggest that using judo points would be better for small game than field tips for this reason, judo points will keep your arrow from going under ground and disappearing on you, plus, they will kill small gamed quite well also. Just something to concider!

I shot a squirrel with my bow last year, it was fun, perfect 15 yard shot. Made a good shot, but the squirrel ran up a tree so i wasnt able to retrieve it (it was a tree about 6" around and 25' high and it ran to the forks in the top) but i got my arrow back. Gonna try for some more this fall with my deer setup if i' m having a slow day. Great practice, really good for your stalking and shooting abilities if you do it alot.

oops i forgot, i just used a field tip last year. If i use muzzy' s this year on my deer setup, i might shoot one with a muzzy with the practice blades in. Looks like it' ll stop em if i shoot em from my treestand.

The judo points are they the ones with the wire sticking out? I kinda like the 30-30 brass idea
. I have been out scouting the woods for this fall and the grey squirrels are everywhere!!! Thought this might give me some good practice when season opens. If I get use to the judo point will it affect my shooting with broadheads or just sight adjustments??? Seems a great way to judge distance!

Paul, the judo points will fly and hit just like your field points do. And if you hit small game square with the judo point, they don' t go far. Just buy judo points in the same weight as your field points, and you' re good to go.
