The contest starts October 1st 2008and will go throught toMarch 15 2009. This contest is for called inpredators only, no trapped or baited animals and no houndsallowed.Contestants must provide photos of the animal with their weapon in order to be scored and this will be on the honor system.Please keep the pictures in a tasteful manner, no gore and keep the blood to the very minimum. Teams will be selected randomlyand will be posted before the October start date.

Coon -10
Coyotes - 50
Bobcat - 50
Fox - 50
Wolves -200
Mt Lion - 250
Bear- 250

PS: This isn't just a coyote contest- or coyote/coon. Predators include fox, wolves and bobcat among other things. Also- all animals must be called and killed. No trapping, baiting, hounds or road hunting allowed. You should find Howler's threads from last season and use his information to format this years contest.

As Jrb said, if this contest is going to be like last years, we didn't allow trapped/baited animals, called only and we gotta include all the predators that can be called.

Sorry to be such a pain in the ass... but the closing date should be revised to MARCH 15th as it was last season. If you waituntilAprilwe'll have a handful of problems including dens full of starving coyote pups and most of the contestants (myself included) will no longer be visiting this site on a regular basis.

Most recreational hunters stop calling inJanuary/February as fur quality declines not to mention thatnearly ALL Midwestern and Eastern states have seasons that close within that timeframe.

Here's the basic layout we've used in the past... take this and run with it...

Interesting, but how do you call bears and coons? A spot light in the tree for coons isn't really calling, and cooking BBQ and leaving the cooker out to attrack the bears isn't calling either. If we want to play that way, I guess I can, but last years format was easy.

Man, the rules aren't that complicated. "Must be called" and "No baiting" should pretty much set you straight. Bears were allowed last year- calling was a requirement last year - no baiting was allowed last year - why is this any different than last years format aside from adding coon?

Can you call a wolverine in with a predator call? Never heard of it before.

OK, here's the deal. Melsheeba Emailed me a couple of weeks ago, wondering why there didn't seem to be much interest in the predator contest so far. Also asked if I wanted to take over and run it again this year. I Emailed her back telling her that she needed to keep the post refreshed and near the top of the board, as it had fallin' back onto page two. SO, I guess at this point, since she hasn't posted in over 2 weeks, and it's coming up on time to get the ball rolling, I WILL BE TAKING OVER and, like Rammer, think that the rules that we had last year should apply. All that agree, yeah, all that dissagree say NAY!!!

I also think we should delay the beginning date to the 15th of Oct. to give us a little more time to get more participants signed up.

IDEAS??

OK, let's get the ball bouncing then. I am going to pick teams this evening. We will start with 4-4 man teams for now. We will leave entrys open also, so that each time we get 4 more interested entrants, I will add one man per team, with random draw. Once we hit 4 -10 man teams, if we do, that will end entry. I am going to tweek the points awarded for each species just a little. I am going to allow raccoon, because they are a predator and they can be called. Also will throw wolverine on the list, just because I want to see someone get one called in and killed. ;)

raccoon- 5 points/ea.
fox - 50 points/ea
coyote -50 points/ea
bobcat -- 75 points/ea
wolverine-250 points/ea
wolf -250 points/ea
mtn. lion -500 points/ea
bear --500 points ea.

For the hunter/team to be awarded points, the hunter must post pics. that will include the animal/s and weapon usedduring the hunt. No EXCEPTIONS. No weapon in the pic.= 0 points. No pic. of the animal= 0 points. The hunter does NOT have to be in the pic., as many guys hunt alone and many may not have any way of including themselves in the pic. This is all on THE HONOR SYSTEM. If you feel that you gotta cheat to win, you're pathetic. [:@];)This is for fun. Although I may try to put together some kind of award for the winning team. NO Promise on that![8D]But I am going to try to come up with something!! Don't hold your breath for too long!;)

I am going to go ahead and draw teams this evening, andwill post the results no later than 9 pm mtn. time. The starting date will be Oct. 1st., tomorrow. Let the best/luckiest team win!!

Bears can be called with predator calls, much like any other predator can be, often by using fawn in distress, even jackrabbit distress. Not many are killed that way, BUT IT CAN BE DONE. Raccoons also will come to the call. Often times coon fighting sounds are used on electronic calls to bring them in, and the action can be fast and furious at times with mulitple coons coming at once. Not only during the night either, they can be called during daylight hours. AGAIN, IF someone is using hounds to tree them, or using spotlights to shine them, then they shouldn't be counted in this contest. HOW WILL WE know for sure, we won't. AGAIN, if someone feels the need to cheat to win this little piddly contest, they are PATHETIC!!

And by the way, I don't see your name on the entrant list yet!!;)

sign me up howler,it sounds to me like some of the crew has never used a coon squaller to simulate a coon fight and have a coon try to run up there leg to get to the sound.they are in for a treat!Those critters are very aggresive when coming to a fight.I have several coon sounds on my foxpro after witnessing one come in full blast and try to kill the caller!good luck everyone!!

I was playing with the coon sounds on my Foxpro this summer and had to send my Scorpion in to get a new antenna put on it after a coon form tackled it to the ground off the tree limb it was sitting on. [:@]
