Default Small game

I'm new to hunting, so forgive me if I'm not very intelligent.

At this time of year, june-august, what type of small game is most common? Or do you see different small game about the same? I usually only birds, but maybe im in a bad spot.

Any info would be great.
Thanks.

I would think that squirrels would be earliest season for you. It starts on August 1 in Illinois. I would think that it would be fairly early in New York too.

The first things that open up here in IL are squirrels and dove. Coyote is open year round. Real long crow season as well. I have a hard time getting motivated to hunt that early when I could be fishing or golfing...

Ahhh. I see squirrels most frequent, so I might go for them.
