I use either a 222 or a 223 depending on where I am. I have a Remington 600 mohawk in 222 that I use for a walk around predator calling rifle. Its really short with its 18" barrel and light with a light weight 3-9x40 scope. It will shoot a 40gr Vmax at 3150fps and is really easy on pelts. For any serious long range work or when I feel up to toting around 14lbs I use my DPMS Panther with 24" Heavy barrel and 6-24x40 B&L elite 4200 scope. It is the most accurate rifle I have ever shot and is great for those long shots. Mainly boils down to terrian. If its rough or thick country and shots will be 200 or less I carry the 222 and if there is any chance at longer shots I use the .223 with 68gr MHP.

The longest that I' ll be shooting is about 200 yards. The gun had to have enough power for coyotes, beavers etc. I don' t care about the pelts or meat. The gun had to be in good condition (new), sell cheap ($100) and have readily avaiable and cheap ammo ($10/50 rounds).

I shoot the 220 swift now, but that .243 WSSM looks promising.

I use a Remington Varmint Synthetic special rifle in .308. I know it' s a bit much, but out here in Cali, the coyote' s do a severe job on the deer population. They are very smart and skeptical, so sometimes I have to reach out and touch them from 200+ yards, it' s nice to have that extra power. It' s also fun to watch them jump about 3 feet in the air when shot with it. I topped it with a tactical Leupold scope with a 50mm lens on it and use Black Hills moly coated ammo.
I figure the less coyote' s, the more deer.

Other than my AR15 I have a remington 600 mohawk in .222 that I use for a walk around predator rifle. Its short and light and shoots very well. I use it when I will be doing any amount of walking, it thicker areas or anywhere that I think I will probably be shooting less than 250 yards.
