Got my first coyote

Sunday my dad and went coyote calling. It was the first time I had been and it was a blast. The first spot we set up we didnt get anything to come in so we moved. At the second spot we set up about 50 yards apart around 50 yards from a wooded area facing it. We started a distressed rabbit call and within 10 minutes i heard something behind and to my left (i was at the bottom of an oak tree with a cedar to my right). I looked to my left and less than 20 yards 3 coyotes came running in. They passed within 15 yardsof my tree and were running towards the call. One stopped at about 40 yards and must have smelled where i walked. Another stopped around 30 yards and I shot opposited handed with my .17hmr and she ran less than 50 yards. Lots of fun and look forward to going again.

You have just found one of the most exciting sport's on the planet. It will soon turn into an obsession, you will think about it at times when your doing something else, you will think about what you could have done wrong if you dont call up one for a little while, you will always remember that first one.CONGRADULATIONS you are hooked.Keep hunting and more will come.

Hey buddy, Thats a big question ,I think it depends on what time of year, what tyoe of game you have around. Rabbitt distress is always a good one. Birds, house cat, turkey, and mouse or rodent all work well. this time of year coyote vocals work well also.I would start out with howels and yips for15 or 20 min. and then go to distress if you don"t see anything. If you are near a dairy farm the cat in distress is a killer call. Cats and coyotes do not see eye to eye, if you know what I mean. What kind of caller do you have?
