Coon problem

I finally got my camera up on my corn yesterday. I had 16 photos of coons last night. What is the best way of getting rid of these pests. I'm going to spotlight them tonight but if there is a better way let me know. Thanks

RE: Coon problem

Spotlighting works the best in my opinion. We got 34 in one night. We also trap them set some traps around the corn. Any trap will work, just through a little fish or somethin in it. Or put a snare in there trails.

Ok well I'm gonna spotlight with a .22 tonight and see what results I get and I'll post them.

Hide the watermelons and the fried chicken!

They will move out in their own when they get hungry enough.

RE: Coon problem

Well I went last night to spotlight them. While We were walking the tree line to the feeder my camera flashed. We flew through the woods to see them but they disapeared. We tried to shine the trees but we couldn't find them. I don't have dogs so does anyone have any suggestions on how to catch em to kill em.

RE: Coon problem

I would come get em for you, but I live in NE. Traps of any kind would work. Put some live traps with some fish around the corn.

RE: Coon problem

Calling raccoons with Ecallers work well also, day or night. Get a friend to buy one of the Ecallers that have fighting coon sounds on it, and that's all it takes. Day or night.

RE: Coon problem

Thats cool I'll have to look at doing that.

nick_bleuer76 02-04-2008 08:01 PM

RE: Coon problem

I would just talk to friends, and spread the word that you are looking for some coon hunters!

Slapout_hunter1202 02-06-2008 05:48 AM

RE: Coon problem

I've tried but I can't find anyone that coon hunts regularly.

RE: Coon problem

Well If you've been through here, I live behind the cotton gin. When you go down 111 from We2 turn right in front of the Boy's Store. I had 4 at the corn last night. So if you want some coons let me know.

RE: Coon problem

hey slapout hunter have you tried just sitting and waiting in the evening and morning times,I dont coon hunt, but I have killed several with my bow on corn piles during deer season, and they usually come in well before dark and after daylight, and also as howler said coon sounds will draw them in,day or night, but be ready they can come down a tree very fast and be on your pants leg even faster,I'd take a shotgun for calling, and a rifle for sitting.Hope you kill all of them corn theives.

RE: Coon problem

Naw I haven't yet. I have thought about doing that but just haven't. I don't have a E-caller but I get pictures of them everyday. So they come in on a regular basis.

coyote#68 02-16-2008 06:39 PM

RE: Coon problem

take your 22 and kill them corn theives, you dont need a real bright light,a regular 6Volt light is plenty and you can hold it under you rifle fomearm when you get ready to shoot. And if you have a mouth call coons will sometimes come to distress sounds also they like bird sounds.I have called them in while bobcat calling with bird sounds.

Sorry if this sounds sarcastic, but seems to me you ought to be out there
trying instead of beating a dead horse..Get out there and shoot'em or
get somebody else to do it for you. They are just gonna multiply if you
don't get it over with...

Slapout_hunter1202 02-17-2008 11:28 AM

RE: Coon problem

Yeah well if I could I would. I can't catch them out there. Everytime I try there gone and I dont have a stand or blind to sit at.

RE: Coon problem

RE: Coon problem

crazycoonhunterNE 02-17-2008 07:03 PM

RE: Coon problem

i'm sure there are way more than you know about, we got about 100 last year and we have hunted all the same spots this year, there is just no way to completely get rid of them

crazycoonhunterNE 02-17-2008 07:11 PM

RE: Coon problem

would you be interested in swapping a hunt, we could do a 2 person hunt here for deer, mulies or whitetails, me and my buddy could come and shoot some kind of animal, and see if we could get rid of a few coons while were at it.

Slapout_hunter1202 02-17-2008 07:39 PM

RE: Coon problem

That sounds good. I'll get back to you about it. Nothing is in season right now but I'll PM you back.
