Default Fur Prices?

Anyone heard anything of prices of coon skins? I talked to my local buyer and he said better than last year; maybe 10-12 dollar averages. I was just wondering what you guys have been hearin...

I haven't heard anything in Ohio yet. The Groenewold company website is still pretty noncommital about many of the fur prices in relation to last years prices. I think that I averaged about 7.50 for coons last year, but that was with lots of big ones in the lot. I really got shafted at an auction in southern Illinois with the bulk of mine. Of course, if we dont get some cold weather here, the fur isn't gonna be worth trapping until december.

according to the new fur-fish-game, coon will be in strong demand this year. it says $20 for fully prime northern skins, better semi heavy skins at $15-$18, and others for $8-$10.

good to hear its on the rise again. 10-15 years ago i remember it was practically a second income. we ran dogs 5-6 nights a week and dropped alot of coon. i cant remember what we got, but pretty sure most were 20+$

then it got to 5$ and less....then noone would even buy them...glad to see things coming back around.. havent ran dogs in 8 years or so so i havent got to watch..

Hell in the late 70s and early 80s, a double XX coon in southern Illinois would get you 30 dollars sometimes. Jumbos would pay upwards of 40-50. A nice red fox would get you 75 bucks. And that's fur that is inferior to what you get up in Wisonsin. But then again, the 8-10 dollars that has been paid for muskrats recently is nearly double what is was when coon prices were really high.

I too read the current issue of F-F-G, what this guy is recommending is putting up blue skins. I live in Ks. and we haven't had a frost yet. How bad will they dock us on early skins or will they?

Fur that is not prime is only worth a fraction of its regular value, if they will buy it at all. When in doubt, its best to wait another week or two.

Yes...here in PA I will not be putting out any traps until next weekend. The canine and coon are getting prime but are still can use this extra week or two. Coon and Grey fox are what I hear are going to be in high demand. Coon averaging 12-20 bucks per pelt. Greys will probably been in the 20-40 range. Not sure I will be getting that info though from John(epler) in the next couple days.

Does anyone know where I might find out places that buy hides in my area?

Google NAFA. They have reps everywhere. Its the north American fur auction house, where most hides end up any way.
