Default How could this happen??????

i was kinda just hunting tonite. not hunting anything in particular., but i had my pellet gun. .177 at about 800 fps. seen a squirrel at about oh 45-55yds. and decided what the heck and took the shot. now this squirrel was atleast30 ft. off the ground. i shot heard it hit him. blew him off the tree, and.................. SMACK he nails the ground hard. then i was like yesssss, but then he gets up and takes off runnin, FAST, lol, and runs to a woodpile we had, so i went inside, and reloaded and wentto look. I get down there, and am lookin the pile over real good, and was about to leave when something flies past my head at about 200 mph, i turned around, and theres that squirrel climbing up and around this tree. so i started walkin around the tree to see if i could get a shot, and he kept goin in circles till he just dissapered. i never seen or heard him again. i think we scared the crap out of each other lol. can anybody tell me how that squirrel survived that fall? i find it hard to belive. it was a pretty big squirrel too, so he was fallin fast. i dont get it.

No different than the storys ofhuman children falling out2nd or 3rd story windows on to concrete and surviving. Actually, the human child surviving such a fall is more surprising than a squirrel surviving a fall out of a tree onto mother earth.

i know it was just in the heat of the moment, and it was incredible how hard i hit him, because when squirrels just get hit barely the dont fall like that, i know if it had been a kill shot he would have tried to hang on.

Yeah lol i have noticed that before. I shoot the little guy and if he dont die right away he hangs on with one hand till he looses strength and falls. Stuff like that is why I like to take head shots, I take pride in a quick humane kill.

I seen a squirrel up a tree we were trimming in the city it was about 25' up it jumped and landed right in the middle of the street and took of like it was been chased. I seen it looking at the guy in the treewith the saw so it took the hard way down I heard it hit the pavement I thought that would do it in but I was wrong tough little beggers.

I know, it sucks when you know you hit something and you cant find it. Last week I took a shot at a spruce grouse, but my shotgun missfired. After hearing the click the chicken flew into a tree and my dad shot it through the body with a .22 LR. I couldnt believe it, the grouse flew after that and we heard it crashing into trees, so we went looking for it and finally found it dead under a tree. Thats why I always use a shotgun for birds, because sometimes they flop right over after being hit with a .22 and other times they fly on you.
hahaha when I was bird hunting on sat.I had a crafty snowshoe elude me in the thick bush and I never got a shot. O'well mabye next time ill catch him sitting. They are nearly white here already, which is nice cause theres hardly any snow yet.
