RE: Crow Huntin'
Yea i do but not as often as i use to because i started bowfishing in the off season. as far as tips go, get within a couple hundred yards of the crows before calling. also remember to always kill the first one. he is kind of like a scout. if you kill him more will come.

RE: Crow Huntin'
I do it but not like most people. We go to cut cornfields and set up in the woods around 150-300 yards away and shoot them with rifles. They are good practice and when your that far away they dont get too scared from the shot.

RE: Crow Huntin'
I use a 223 AI or 223, whichever I have with me that day. PA there is no season for crows so you can shoot them year round. Lot's of fun and practice.

RE: Crow Huntin'
we got into it last winter and i advise against the turkey choke. we had best results with around a modified choke and 6 shot. had some cripples with dove shot, and my old left over duck shells seemed like overkill. I agree shoot the first one, but heck just shoot everyone that comes within shotgun range. i rigged up my own ecaller, but had just as good success by sneaking within a few hundred yards and mocking them with my mouth call. brings em in close. Next year ill be trying a bigger decoy spread (6-12) and a flapping wing deke.
IT IS A BLAST |

RE: Crow Huntin'
Wow, they changed that, up until a few years ago they weren't considered game and there was no season.

RE: Crow Huntin'
I shoot crow with a pellet rifle. by using a pellet rifle there is no noise to scare any others away.

RE: Crow Huntin'
that might be a good idea! with a pellet rifle i might get that GAMO air shotgunits like 200 bucks lol but ya also if you have a owl decoy out there and shoot one crow the others will go and try to attack that owl! a good set up i would try it!

RE: Crow Huntin'
In Minnesota the official crow hunting season is March 1-31, and July 15th to October 15th.
There is one big loophole in regards to crows. The MN DNR claims if a crow has damaged your property, or is about to cause damage to your property, they can be taken. Sounds good to me! |
RE: Crow Huntin'
In the past i purchased some recorded tapes and just played them througha cheap tape player. They worked pretty well. Now i just use a mouth call. You don't have to lug around a bunch of gear and it's easy to get the crows fired up. It's also pretty easy to replicate injured/fighting crow sounds. Sometimes i throw in a few decoys. I use a modified choke with 6 shot.
