if u dont want 2 spend a lot of money look at the Crosman 760 pump. use this w/ Copperhead Pointed Pellets and ur good 2 go. about 825fps at 15 pumps. if u want more power, look at the Winchester 1000X from cabelas. i just took out the 760 and pointed pellets today and you can shoot to about 65 yards accurately and have plenty of penetration. the longer shots the pellets stayed together for better penetration but the ten and less yards it shattered for more damage. i shot it into thick newspaper, at 65 yards the pellet will penetrate about3/4 inch and at 10 yards it went in 2 inches. but if it is for headshots on groundhog or rabbits get something more powerful. i shot a groundhog over the summer w/ half dull field point at 7 yards in the head and it didnt even penetrate.[:'(][:@]

I use a Gamo, and it is remarkably consistent. Get something with close to 1000 fps, and a good shot will drop anything. I'd stay away from pumps because if your doing a lot of shooting in a single setting, it will get old fast. Also, smarter varmits within ear shot will eventually recognize the sound (and meaning) of the pumping, and be gone before you finish.

Any .177 or .22 that's 1,000FPS+ should be fine. And I would stay away from pump; get a nice break barrel. Some good brands are Beeman, Diasy, Gamo, RWS, and Winchester.

Here's a nice website: www.pyramidair.com and to shop by brand: http://www.pyramidair.com/cgi-bin/sh...fles=show_menu

And you shouldn't need a scope, it's unnecessary and won't hold its zero.

I have a crossman 1000x. The box says it shoots at 1000fps. But I really dont find it to shoot consitently. Maybe i am not using the right pellets. But i did drop a raccoon with a head shot at 10 yards. And is leathal on rabbits.
