Default shot my first critter with my new gun

after having no success for the last couple of weeks I finally was able to get a shot at something. I shot a squirrelat about 50 yds with my new 17 hmr. the only thing is I didnt realize he was sitting above a hole in the tree and he fell right in it.I feel good I got my first kill, but i also feel bad because I cant retreive it.

I had the same thing happen this year with a red squirrel. I shot and he full in a tree. I aso have a HMR and if you didn't hit him in the head then the squirrel wouldn't have been worth field dressing. The HMR tears them up.
