Default 00Buck or .22rifle?????

Well, I love predator calling. And there has been a big group of7or8 foxesthat are around my place. So the other day me and mt dad were dove hunting and we pulled up and one of them was about 30 yards broadsideNow we had the shotguns beside us with a 00buck shot beside me and I had a.22 rifle beside me as well SO,if this were to happen again which should I use,the buck shot or .22???

00, it'd knock it down better than a small .22 that might be able to heal without vital kill shots

I'd use the 22 myself.

Dove hunting with a .22 and buckshot? Something sounds fishy!

buckshot wont kill u many foxes if they are more than 20yds away tops, the pattern is just too poor. if you want to shoot foxes then BBs or #1s are a much better choice with#2s as a second best.

a 3" 00 buck in 12 gauge only has 15 pellets, and a 2 3/4" only has 12 pellets. BUT at 20 yards, it would be leathal on a coyote or fox, no question. A better choice for shotgun and predators would be 4 buck! Pattern your gun, and find the best choke for your gun, and you could be lethal out to 50 yards with your 12 gauge.

There must be some tough dove in your neck of the woods!

We can only use 2 3/4" with 9 pellets over here and they generally pattern poorly. Its a shame we dont get the variety of choice you guys get.

Go to a gunsmith and have the frocing cone in your shotgun lenthened.
And it will improve the pattern.
Plus it will feel better on your sholder.
Most factory shotguns have about 1/2 inch forcing cone.
If it was lenthened to about 1 1/2 inches,
it wouldn't deform the pellets and pattern batter.

Good Luck
