I usually dump deer carcasses in the same area, not to hunt over them as bait, but to keepcoyotes in the area, so I can call to them later.

I've found that hunting over bait is much more effective at night, and I just would rather go during the day.

first i would check local laws concerning roadkills,
in NY, it is Illegal to handle/remove any roadkill.
if it is legal in your state, as long as it is fresh should be fine for bait,
even if they dont eat it, they will come to investigate,

Wouldn't bears come to that scent also?
Who would make it there first?
Have you tried a predator call? Do they work well?
