May seem a little big but ive been using a winchester 70 .270 for coyote.We've been over ranwith them andthey seem never to get any closer than300-400 yards when i have a gun, so it does the trick.

I have a savage 223 and just got a remington 700bdl in 223 and love them they do just as good of job as a 22250 and they are cheaper to shoot. I know everyone says the 250 it the ultimate yote gun but i dont like it and i took great pride in out shooting my buddy who has a ruger 22 250 and i think i got him convinced cuz he shot mine a few times one day at the range and after shooting we went to a local gun shop and he traded his ruger 250 for a 700varmint. I always knew mine was better i just had to make it known to others. hows that for influence.

I don't know what you been smokin, but that 223 ain't no where near a 22-250... never has been, never will be... I was first associated with the 223 in the late 60's and the best day of my life was the day I bought my first 22-250 in 72... never looked back... and surely don't miss the 223...

The 223 can be loaded to near 22/250 velocity, with a lot less powder. So, in my opinion the 223 is a hands-down winner.


Isn't it great how everyone can have opinions!

I'm just curious as to your reasoning why the 22-250 is "better" than a 223.

Thanks Rammer some one agrees i think alot of people are just pursuaded by the magazines and books and stuff that say the 250 makes the 223 obsolete but it doesnt and it not the size or speed of the bullets it if your a good shot or not cuz in my experiences ive shot more with my 22lr then my 250 cuz the 250 isnt enough different then my 223 to take most of the time and unless out in really wide open spaces a 223 will shoot plenty far enough.

honest question here: Handloads can easily outperfrom factory loads...so comparing handload to factory load is unfair...I don't have the numbers in front of me, nor do I remember off the top of my head....factory to factory 22-250 is alot more gun than the .223 And simply judging by the case-capacity surely max handloads of the 22-250 are still above max handloads of the .223, is this right?

I use a 22-250 with cheap factory ammo. WHY? 'cause its what my dad had (a.k.a FREE GUN!) Big boom, big flop...is how just about every story ends.

I don't believe a .17 is good for kills much more than squirrls and rabbits.
A .243 I believe is as good a caliper as you can get.

The reason I think the.17 is incapable is that we shot a pen raised hog with one and had to shot it 3 times at point blank range.

well you probely used 17g. vmax rounds wich are designed for shots over 50yrds try a cci tnt for under 50 you may be suprised its a little over kill for a squirrel unless you take head shots
