Yes, the .22 CB's will probably be the way to go for pest control. They still have terminal velocity but are about as quiet as a bb gun.

Yep i deffinately prefer the cb longs over my 177 cal benjamin sheridan air rifle the cb longs are about or maybe a little quieter then the air rifle and also push a heavier bullet at about the same muzzle velocity.

Man that sucks to have it limited to 500, my Gamo hunter 220 can get up to 1000 fps and the new pellet gun pistol I'm getting can get up to 600 fps and its only $50 compared to the $180 that I spent on my Gamo.

I know they're not glamorous, but I picked up a cheapo chinese air rifle from a feed store for $20. It shoots right around 900f/s.
BTW - I recently decided to stop using my pellet rifle and bought some CCI CB Caps. They come in Long or Short, but have the same ballistics. They run 727f/s & 34 ftlbs out of the barrel. The 29gr lead slug is more than enough for the local squirrels and starlings, they're about as quiet as a pellet rifle, they won't go through a 2x4, and the trajectory is about the same as the LR out to 30 or 40 yds, so I don't have to adjust my scope at all. Also, the ammo is right around $0.06 per round from wally world. |

@ HighDesertWolf.....in CANADA,airguns are limited to 500fps ! ...any more than that and they are considered firearms and must be registered as such.You can purchase a Beeman for eg. ,but only if you are properly licensed and it is reg. in your name.so why spend hundreds of dollars and license a pellet gun when you can get a .22 ??
This is all a part of our governments ingenious 2 billion dollar scam known as Bill C-68 (gun control/registration).[:'(] Now for the really stupid part (yes,it gets worse!)......:eek: A .177 caliber air rifle which fires a 8 grain pellet at 700 fps (just an eg.)..is considered a firearm and must be reg'd and the owner licensed. A .50 caliber flintlock pushing out a ball of lead at..1000 fps(??). ...is considered an antique and somehow not as dangerous so it does not have to be registered or the owner licensed. Which would you rather be in front of.......? |

That's where the term oxymoron comes into play. You CANNOT use the word government and intelligence, or any word similar to it without confusing everybody.
BTW - There are .22's on the market that travel less than 500f/s and some that travel at a meager 535f/s, all of which are lethal to rodents. |
