Bill, the firedot 4 is basically a regular duplex without the upper vertical post. At 100 yds. it will function fine. If the battery croaks (unlikely but always carry a spare) it's still visible....

If you like the illum. reticle, the VX R has been getting good reviews. I like the firedot 4 reticle offering. The Zeiss scopes are solid as well. Either would be fine IMO.
