Its most likely just personel preference because there is certainly nothing wrong with the 270 as a long range hunting rifle.

Isn't that a Russian round? 7.62x54? I could be wrong but I have a 7.62x54 Russian. The 7.62x54R is about equal to the 30-06. I have one made for the Russians by Sako.

You are right about the 260 and 6.5x55. They are excellent deer cartridges and while they are not considered long range deer rifles, they should be. 300 yards is no trick for either of these 6.5...

Just because one rifle in 7MM WSM shoots tiny groups does not by any means mean that the next one will. Accuracy is built into the rifle not the caliber. The 7MM WSM will always lag behind the...

It should work very well as well. Rick Jamison who is one of the better gun writers IMO, has praised its capablilities out to 300 even for Elk. This of course with good shot placement. It has plenty...

If I were fool enough to poke at a deer at 500 yards then the 270 would handle the job just fine. I have hunted enough to get much closer than that to the animal. I have shot 7MM Mags plenty having...

Just finished the first week of deeer season. Six mule deer with six shots from the 270. Lets see now, how could it get better than that? The deer do not know that the poor old 270 is now out of date...

I doubt tnat the caliber had a thing to do with it. Most any caliber will tear up the guts on a deer and sometimes they drop on the spot and sometimes they run. I have hit deer through the vitals...

I will start this deer season with a 270. I have a 2.8X10 Aetec scope on it. This combo will be darn hard to beat for shot as far out as a guy should be taking. Total cost of the package 555.00....

I agree at least 1000 percent. When I shot 500 Meter silhouettes I quickly learned about the forces that act on bullets at long range. When you talk real long range it takes a lot of practice plus...

The 270 and 280 are made for the tasks you wish to perform. I also like the 25-06.
