Donuts, donuts and more donuts. Bears have a wicked sweet tooth and molasses and bird seed also work well but make sure baiting is legal in your area.

My uncle has hunted with hounds almost all his life and for the past twenty years he has been using them for black bear in NH. His preference are plot hounds, but has used walkers, and mountain curs...

If it was me I would only hunt in remote places like Northern Maine. I live on Cape Cod but have a cabin up by Jackman Maine with lots of access to remote hunting locations.

I grew up in up-state Vermont so I have been really influenced by the "Benoit" style of hunting which is what I think you are looking for. They have two books out that are great reading...
