I have hunted with a 30-30 . Then I went to a 30-06 . If I am going to set in a stand I use the 30-06 . If I plan to walk any distance I carry a 357 mag. rifle -light and quick to shoulder .

I have had that chance one more than one ocasion . I have never shot a doe with even one small fawn . Yearlings are different .

I haven't hunted public land for several years . The area I have in mind is a field about 8-10 acres in size . Trees all around . One small bunch in the open next to a pond is where I have a ladder...
