Default Heads up SALE

Optics Planet is having a sale on their Vortex scopes. Plus for the holiday they are offering a 15% discount (FRDM code) on your purchase. I just ordered a Vortex Diamondback 4-12X for a total price of $207 with free shipping! These scopes go for $299 just about everywhere else.

Really?.....You can get a Diamondback HP 3-12x42 at EuroOptics for about $170 and its a better scope than the standard Diamondback. Better eye relief and better glass.

Or the 4-16x42 at MidwayUSA for $200.

Then you are not talking about a standard Diamondback. You must be talking about the Diamondback Tactical 4-12x40 which does not include the sun shade or side focus. SWFA just had the SS Classics on sale again for $200-250. Made in Japan by Kenko. Fixed power but target turrets and built like a tank.

The 12x42s were just $200 with either MOA or MIL reticle. I got a 10x42 MIL-Quad during the last sale with a set of Butler Creek caps for around $217 delivered.

Not that price now GM. I never thought of a fixed power! I'll likely end up shooting the variable at 12x most of the time anyway soooo.

Nope its not but if you watched the deals i post all the time on MML you would have seen it. Just like i know where you can still get a Bushnell Tac Ops 10x40 1" tube made by LOW in Japan for $205. Nice little scope with target turrets and very very good glass.

GM I just dropped that Vortex scope off at the UPS store to return it. It was defective. It wouldn't hold zero nor did it track properly. I shot it at 50 yards and got it sighted in then fired a group with known good ammo and my group size for 5 shots was almost 1". Then I shot at 100 and the group was about 3". I dialed it up (estimate) to try the 200 yard gong and I shot low. Dialed up a bit more and shot way over. Tweeked it down and shot low, another shot high! I brought it back to zero and I was 6" high.
I took the scope off and put the Leupold back on and shot a ragged hole at 50 yards.
I couldn't believe it. I have 2 other Vortex scopes on my high powers and they are great. This must have been a lemon.
I have a Mueller 8-32x that I just may put on it and give it a go. I had that on my Bergara HMR 6.5CM and it worked fine. I want to shoot this BMR at extended ranges. The rifle is capable.

Vortex failure rate is rather high and tracking often is nothing to rave about too. A few models are better than others but overall they are not as durable as scopes like Sightron or SWFA. That is why i suggested the Diamondback HPs if you are looking at less expensive Vortex. Their track record seems better than average.

SWFA runs those sales a couple times a year. You simply wont find a better tracking and more durable scope for anywhere near that kinda money. The 10x42 was originally the Navy Seals sniper contract scope.

Here is my 10x42 Mil-Quad with a STAC 4-20x50 above it. Seekins low rings and a Murphy rail.

You want a really well made variable scope for $315ish. Made at Light Optical Works in Japan. Nice turrets. These are basically the forerunners to the Bushnell Elite Tactical line.
