if you bought weaver bases for your rifle you should have bought weaver rings to go with them. also make sure the rings are the right size for the scope. most scopes are 1" tubes. hope this helps.

What he said....
1" rings are 1" rings. What scope are you trying to mount? It shouldn't matter if you mix bases and rings, as long as the rings are made for Weaver style bases, which many are. You said your problem is that the scope itself won't fit.

Weaver is a company who makes scopes, bases and rings.
However, there are many companies who make "weaver style" bases and rings.
Additionally, most scope "tubes" are either 1" or 30MM; you have to buy the appropriate size rings to "fit" the scope tube.
Lastly, If you want to use "weaver style" bases than to need to get "weaver style" rings.
