Default Buckmaster problem

I own a couple of 4.5x14 Buckmaster scopes. One of them (attached to a .257 Roberts) was purchased about three years ago, and the lenses inside have come loose and are sliding around. It was fine when it was put in the safe last year but when I pulled it out last week it rattled. When you try to look through it all you see is the edge of a lens lying sideways.
It will be sent back to Nikon for repair soon.
Thank goodness I checked it now, several months before antelope season. These are normally good scopes, it must have been a rare lemon.

Luckily I had a VX-3 4.5x14 that I had just taken off of another rifle that I put on the little .257 Roberts today. Sometime after the current snowstorm is over I will UPS the Buckmaster to a Nikon repair shop. No big hurry. When it gets back from repair it will find a new home.

I still think the Buckmaster scope is generally a good product at a good price.

All manufacturers, at times, have issues to resolve. Let's see how Nikon does for you.

Nikon responded by email the day after UPS delivered it to them with the following:

Reason for Service: Total Amount 0.00
OPTICAL ALIGNMENT INTERNAL OPTIC LENSES HAVE COME LOOSE &
RETICLE/CROSS HAIR ARE SITTING SIDEWAYS*INSIDE TUBE
This repair is covered under warranty

That is a quick response, and they agree to fix the problem. Hopefully they will do a good job and return the scope in a reasonable time. Looks good so far.

I hate to hear about that problem, considering I just bought one of those scopes. I'm glad they're fixing it under warranty. I'd be interested in hearing how long it takes them to fix it and get it back to you.

According to the service web site it is a major repair - and Nikon will be sending me a replacement. Apparently at some point in the future my old scope will be the property of someone else as a "refurbished" product. I will post when the replacement arrives.
