Default Looking for a scope for a Marlin 17

I have a BSA Sweet 17 on it now and it is junk so I am returning it tomorrow. I am looking for a decent scope around $100. I will mostly be using it for squirrel hunting and I probably won't be attempting to shoot at anything over 100 yards. I would appreciate any suggestions for a scope to buy and your experience with that scope.

Thanks,
Corey

Corey,

I hate to recommend a "qualiy" rifle scope for under $100, but look at this one (and more from this site).

Honestly, for a rimfire I'd look at the Center Point 4-16x40 scopes at Walmart for $70. I bought one to review and it's actually surprised me. The glass isn't great and infact on the higher powers is pretty crappy, but it's held up fairly well so far, and the adjustments have been repeatable which really surprised me for the price. The glass isn't horrible, but it's not good either. On the 4-12 powers it's pretty decent, on the 14-16 powers it looks pretty hazy and almost like there is smoke infront of you. This seems to be the only thing you give up with this scope.

Another scope to consider are the Simmons White Tail Classics at Natchez on clearance. A 2-10 power should be plenty for shooting at 100 yards. The disadvantage to these is that the parallax is set at 100 yards, where as the Center Point is adjustable so you can adjust it should you decide to shoot at 25 yards or so. Not that you couldn't shoot at close ranges with the Simmons, it just might not be as clear. This is a pretty decent scope especially for the price.

You can also get the Nikon Prostaffs on sale right now in 3-9x40 for $100, and SWFA had some Burris FFII's for $120 that's one of the best deals going imo, but I'm not sure if they have any left and it's slightly over your budget.

Two others are the Vortex Crossfire that SWFA has for $100, or the Simmons WTC 6.5-20x50 that Midway has.

All of these should be decent options for a rimfire.

I ended up getting a Burris Timberline scope. I paid $200 for it ( $100 over what I wanted to pay) but it was worth it. I could shoot the bottom circle of a beer can from about 10 yards away and then turn around and shoot at the can standing up from about 100 yards away. This scope was so worth the money. I will never buy a BSA scope again and never recommend them to anybody.
