How long are you going for? How much do you want to spend? Do you run a boat? If you're a boater and have a week or so, I would rent a house in the Abacos (Bahamas) and rent a boat. Catch hundreds of fish on your own or get a guide. A mile or two from the beach and you'll be in thousands of feet of water. If you're more of a charter type guy, you could hit Cozumel. The sailfish run is strong in May. As for the Keys, Key West ain't the only town. We're going to Marathon twice this year. Tons of fishing there. Islamaroda is the sport fishing capital of the world. That's only about 1.5 hour drive from Miami and great diving/snorkeling, too. Just do an internet search on fishing the Florida Keys. You'll find a ton of stuff.

I've never been to the Virgin Islands but I know they catch a fair share of Marlin there. The Abacos in NE Bahamas have a big marlin tournament in April and May. Mexico is more known for their sailfish. For 4 days I might do a search for marlin charters in the Bahamas. Specifically Abaco. Freeport or Nassau might have too many tourist boats. You want a serious fisherman. Your short amount of time would make the Pacific coast of Mexico or Central America unrealistic. Bimini in the Bahamas might also be a great place to catch a marlin.

Check out this link for Bimini. It's close, too. Only about 50 nautical miles from south Florida. By the way, the Thunderbolt Wreck is a good place in the Keys for amberjack, grouper, permit, etc... It's off of Marathon in the middle Keys. It's not a place to catch a marlin, though.

Wow. You went from a few days in Key West to a trip to Hawaii. That's really changing your plans. Check out Kona. That's where all the sportfishing is. They have blue, black and striped marlin over there. Heck of a long flight, though.

Kona's on the big island. Check out the map.

I think black and blue marlin are pretty close as to which is the biggest. They'll both go 1,500 pounds are so. I believe they have some blues in Hawaii, too but the black is there more common big marlin

BLUE:

BLACK:
