Fishing off Tybee Island, Georgia???

My family and I are spending some time at a beach house on Tybee Island near Savannah, Georgia next June. I am not a salt water fisherman. What kind of guided salt water fishing could I expect to get into in this area? What fish? Costs? What time do you go out, for how long? Do you get to keep your fish? Do they process your fish for you?

Forget about mornong and evening stuff. You are in the ocean and you must play by it's rules, and that is the tide.
Which tide is best? well, it depends on what fish you are after.

On a guided trip, you do have a choice of all day or half day. Some guides are better than others.Either way they will put you on fish. Some clean and some don't. If they clean then you tip. Here in N.E. Fl. 20 bucks per half day is the norm. As for as rates for guides, that is something I don't know.

Mornings and evenings are when fish typically feed. Tide has an affect on the fish but the best thing to do is fish through tidechange (change in the flow of the tide). I have caught all kinds of fish off rocks, boats, piers you name it. The tide has an affect but change of light has the biggest affect in my view. Some people may not believe me but they can notmatch my results evenin their dreams.

The biggest rule of the ocean is it's the boss. Respect it or you wont come home from that fishing trip.

I have to agree with thundermug, with a tide up here that is close to 28 feet on average you would do well fishing off the rocks mornings and evenings if the tide is not right..

I enjoy the incoming tide the best but both incoming and out gowing will work if you catch them right..

The original photo of him that was hanging in the pierhouse got blown away in a hurricane a few years back. I think it was Floyd. Tore our old pier to shreds. Now we have a new concrete pier that is over a quarter mile long.

We catch quite a few kingfish off of it in the summer.

Now, if you target shark they kick you off the pier...first you get a warning, then you get a 30 day suspension

Tybee Fishing ( Better late than Never)

Hey guys,
I have read some of the responses on here after my Uncle told me about this site. I just wanted to post for anyone visiting the area and is interested in fishing while on vacation. Here you have to fish the tides. The best times are two hours before high tide. If you fish on the downside of the tide, the only thing you will catch is possibly a skate or a shark. (if you are lucky) Fishing Saltwater varies from region to region. In Maine, Light has an effect as well as tide conditions. Some of the best stripe bass fishing is in the mouth of the Sagadahoc river.

In South Ga. The tides rule. There are very few rock formations here. Unless, you are fishing for trout in the Savannah river.(seasonal)

The Best baits to use here are Shrimp and squid.

The best place to fish is the North beach of Tybee (Near the Lighthouse). The pavilion pier, is too close to the public beaches to be effective during the daytime. So if you are going to fish the pier, Do so 2 hours before high tide in the evenings. The Back River Fishing pier on Tybee is a good place if you are fishing for sport. You will catch mostly small whiting and alot of shark. Shark use the Backriver as a spawning ground. So the sharks are VERY small.

You will need to have a Georgia fishing License to fish in the salt water here also. Check out the Ga. Dnr website for details.
