Hunter, You would have more luck fishing for trout in the grass flats
in Anclote Key, Chiefland, Cedar Key, Inverness or Cross City than on the open waters of
the gulf.

that's actually where we ended up going. we went out onto the flats via the cedar river. all i knew was that it was the west coast. so anyhow. i didn't catch any trout i had a few come in and the get off. but i did catch a sail cat or something like that. it's a saltwater catfish of some sort. to keeper trout were caught and that was it. it was still fun though.

Hunter, the best I have found for Trout is Mirrow Lure 52M11.
My father in-law and I caught 30 keepers in the grass flats at
Anna Maria Island in Bradenton. My son and his buddy go to
Anclote Key off Hwy-19 in Pinellas county.

The best thing I've found for trout is a live shrimp.
