Flash hole question?????
Loading 22-250. The virgin Winchester brass has (as does all new brass)
punched flash holes. My question is: in order to make the flash round what is the best way to do it. The RCBS flash tool is handy but will not really round out a hole. Thank's for any help. P.S. It doesn't make good sence to me to trim , turn the neck, uniform the primer pocket only to have a out of round flash hole. |
RE: Flash hole question?????
I usually just use the RCBS Flash Hole Deburring tool. If the flash hole is off center, or out of round I seperate them and use them for plinking. I guess one can find the right size bit and round them out. Good luck.

RE: Flash hole question?????
Unless they are off center real bad like laying on the side it won,t make any appericable difference or problem and they will burn out some after they are fired for the first time.

RE: Flash hole question?????
I also use the RCBS deburring tool. I wouldn't worry too much about the hole being off center some.

RE: Flash hole question?????
IMO you're wasting your time messing with flash holes.....do it if you wish...it's your time!

RE: Flash hole question?????
Hello PD,
I agree with Vapodog.....Worry about primer pockets not flash holes........It's your time!!! KEEP ON ROOTING!!! |
RE: Flash hole question?????
Thats a 10-4 on wasting your time with the flash holes myself and others around have tested lots of rounds to see if t made a difference and we could not tell any at all.
Now days I barely clean the primer pockets and I shoot rifle comps in Arkansas Oklahoma and Texas. |
RE: Flash hole question?????
They can be drilled out to make them round and uniform in size. It won't make much difference but if you are trying to EEK out the last drop of accuracy and uniformity then its a good option to do. All the little things make a difference in the end.
