RE: HELP the wife just bought herself a 7mm Ultra mag.
Remington offers 140 and 160 grain factory Partition loads in the 7 RUM. I was surprised to see that the 7 RUM wasn't listed in Nosler's 5th edition. I thought it was the first Ultra that Remington introduced ? You can find load data for it at www.nosler.com. Good luck !

Does your wife have a sister?
Just kidding.
I have a 7mm Ultra Mag and I reload my own ammo. My Rifle is a Remington 700 bdl ss with a 26" barrel. So far it really likes two different loads with a 140gr Nosler Partition bullet.
Load #1
88 Grains of IMR 7828 with an OAL of 3.60
Groups are .75 and better
Load #2
90 Grains of IMR 7828 with an OAL of 3.60
Groups are .6 and better
This load may seem hot but I have not seen any pressure signs
I also have tried 4831 but gave up because of poor groups and pressure signs
I would get her a good recoil pad so she does not develope a flich, in other words it does kick.
Good luck and stay safe.

Some guys have all the luck; I hope to find a good woman like that one day. I hope your wife enjoys her new rifle. Good luck.
Joe Magee:
What kind of velocities are you getting with your 7mm RUM? Thanks.

RE: HELP the wife just bought herself a 7mm Ultra mag.
I have both cartridges and to tell you the honest truth there is little to be gained over the 7mmstw with the 7mm ultra.I get over 3520fps with my faster stw and 3560fps with the ultra(140gr bullets) for a 40fps increase which is not much for the extra powder burned.I find my 7mm ultramag prefers h-1000 while my stw's prefer imr7828 and my 300ultramag prefers r-25.

Between the two loads the average velocity is 3450fps to 3550fps.
Stubblejumper, I think that you are right about the two cartriges. I looked into the 7mmstw as well. Both rifles coast about the same, so to justify spending that much in the first place I bought the faster one, even though its not that much faster. At least I feel justified right.
