Carp you wont have a problem in the world with 150s in a 300 if you stick with QUALITY bullets like Fail Safes, Barnes X, Trophy Bonded, AccuBonds etc. The "least" bullet I would use in such circumstances would be a Partition Gold. Nope strike that, I wouldnt use even them, the partition is a FINE bullet when you stick with the heavier offerings (like a 180 in this case). But for 150s I have seen too many seperate or "core out" with calibers even lighter than a 300.

IMHO a person is not maximizing their "magnum" noisemaker if they are shooting heavier bullets to compensate for the extra velocity just so the bullet wont fly apart. But that used to be a problem that now has been cured with technology (see the above bullets I mentioned).

Good luck,
RA

Just got my first 300wsm in Savage 10FP. Has anyone started working up loads for this particular rifle. Have used 300 win mag when I lived in Alaska but sold it and all my reloading supplies and data when I left. I am starting form ground zero with this one.

One thing I want to say is use the 165 grain, it has a better Ballistic Coeficient (shoots flatter), I've used the Nosler B-Tip and it does a lot of damage. The Serria Gameking is a soft bullet and will have some problems as well but it is a great bullet for 308 and 30.06 at about 2700-2800 fps.
Hornaday SST, and Swift Scirocco are the only 150-165 I would use for the 300 Win Mag or WSM. I use RL22 with 77.1 grains and get 3200 fps with the Win Mag.

I reload my 300win mag and only use 180gr bullets. I'm sure there are good 150'sout there that will work fine, but w/ the 180's I can go hunt elk, moose, deer, antelope, you name it and never have to site in for the new load. I've used barnes X, nosler partions, and ballistic tips, the ballistic tips were pretty explosive and I'm useing them for coyote s until they're gone. The others were both fine, but all were 180gr.

Carpmaster, I think I may have to disagree with Red on this one. For deer/black bear sized game you don't need to waste your money on the expensive "premium" bullets. Good old Hornady Interlocks will do fine, as will Sierra Game Kings and Pro-hunters.
The "premiums" do have their place. Like when you need maximum penetration and controlled expansion on bigger critters. But then with the 300 WM, you should be using 180 grainers as a minimum. The 180s will perform better than the 150s at longer ranges anyway.
IMO the best bullet is one that expands and stops on the opposite side of the animal. Using all its energy inside where it does the most good. There is no sense for a bullet to blow through an animal and blow a hole in the ground. But with the 150 gr out of a full house 300 WM load, a pass through is just about inevitable.
My personal fav. 300 WM load is 72 gr of IMR4350 behind a 180 gr. Sierra Game King BTSP.

good point bronco, w/ deer or antelope you probably dont need premium bullets, but if you handload they are cheap enough it would be worth it not to have to worry about sighting in every time you change critters.
