For two years I've been loading 150gr SST with pretty good results, but I started reading alot about Ballistic Coefficient. I moved up to Nosler 168gr. HPBT Competition (which has a better B.C.)and my groups are about half what they were. I know your not suppose to hunt with these but I'm going to use them for chuck hunting this year to increase my kills in the 300 plus yard range. I have a buddy the does a lot of competive bench shooting and he recommended that I not go below 150gr. (Better bullet stability)
I'd like to do a little more with the powders; slower or faster burning powder?

Natty,
Depends on the gun, when I was shooting 150's I used Reloader 19 then i went to 165 Hornadys and found better results with Reloader 22, I tried some 200 grainers with dismal results until a buddy gave me some Rl 25 and i got good groups. I say all of it depends on the gun becouse my Browning Eclipse pukes on anything else besides Reloader whereas a freinds Browning BAR doesn't seem to shoot unless feed a steady dose of H4350 and the heavier rounds H1000, IMR or Hogden, neither rifle shoots well with Accurate products but I know some folks who use it with good results.
I think it is a rare rifle <in 300 win mag> that shoots poorly with Reloader products <RL22>, using 168's i would set up two loads, one with RL19 and one with RL22 and see what happens. For what its worth I think 300's seem to be at their best at or very near max loads

I use the 180 gr Serria pro hunter in my 300 and will try the 180 gr Honady SST next, but the best grouping that i have gotten out of mt 300 was with 110 gr short jacket soft point hollow point loaded at about 3500 fps. my first and only true one hole groups. This bullet was designed for the 30-30 but I had them and tried them. This was during the winter and when i tried the same load in the summer the bullets disintegrated. This fellows post asked for the lightest bullets and he should be encourged to try all that he can afford, Darn stuff gets expensive. my gun seems to like the lighter bullets as they were easier to work good loads up for. My gun is a Rem 700 BDL. I like 180 grain bullets myself so that is what it is going to get just took a little longer to find the load.
