Barnes Bullet?

I have always had trouble out of barnes. 1MOA was tough and fouling was bad. So I tried the coated bullets. Fouling wasn't that bad at all, but accuracy was hit or miss. One of my guns, a 270 loves them, but all the rest won't shoot 1MOA. So now they come out with these triple X. I build up a load, and the gun loves it. I mean, at 200 yards, I am getting .75" groups out of a 300RUM. 88gr of RL25 was all it needed. But then they changed the bullet, to 4 rings instead of 3 rings. Well, my velocity went up and the fouling was less than a partition, but I couldn't get that accuracy back. All my groups went to 2.3" or so at 200 yards. Which I can live with. Would like to get my hands on the older style 3 rings. From the picture, you can see that seating depth makes a huge difference with barnes bullets.
From the picture, the upper left is 3.625" COL, the lower left is 3.6" COL, and the upper right is 3.58" COL.
So I suggest giving them a try. Especially the triple X. Best terminal performance in the business.

I haven't used the older Barnes bullets, but I have used the new Triple Shock. In short, I love it. It's accurate, it's terminal performance is awesome and it fouls the barrel less than a lot of conventional bullets I've used. I'll be using a lot more in the future.

I forgot to mention the bad part of Triple X. There really is not any concrete data for them. I mean your kinda on your own when you go 1gr or so past the recommended load for the naked X bullet. And as a result, you could have brass lock up in your gun or worse yet, have a situation where your routinly shooting 80KPSI slowly weakening you gun and you don't even know it yet. Hopefully you can find a load under the max X load recommendations. I tried to load to the XLC recomendations and found out quick, you can't use the coated recommendations.

My son just came back from a weekend of hog & varmint hunting with my Win Model 100 in .308Win using the 168gr Triple Shock bullets. The results..................in his words - GREAT!!!
He took 2 100lb+ hogs and he said the wound cavities were amazing.......one left a tunnel of "jellified" innerds 2 to 3 inches wide throughout the body cavity, while the entry hole was .3ocal size and the exit was about .45cal and the 2nd round hit low and split Porky in half and spilled his innerds on the spot.
Oh, while taking out some varmints (raccoons, armadillos, coyotes) he tried one of the Barnes on a 'diller............... he said the remains were "unidentifiable".
AND after firing 8 of the TSXs and about 30 FMJs, copper fouling was non-existent when I cleaned up the gun.........which was VERY unusual, since this old thing usually coppers-up badly.
So, I have to say overall - I'll be using the TSXs for hunting from now on!

I loaded up some 180gr Barnes XLCs at 2900 fps out of my 30-06 and it touches holes at 100 yards, my 7x57 mauser with 140gr XLCs will shoot a .6" group at 100 yards and my .223 will touch holes at 100 yards with my 40gr VLCs moving at 3900 fps. Barnes makes excelent bullets and I have never shot one that was not accurate.
