Has anybody here ever loaded the Hornady V-Max 110 gr. or a similar light bullet in a .270 Win. for use on coyotes and such? Just wondering if researching this out and finding a good load would be worth the effort. I'm not looking for one hole performance, just a respectable hunting round for predators. I really like my Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker in .270 Win. and thought it might make a good companion while calling coyotes. What's your thoughts on this?

The .270 is a bit much as a varmint rifle.....but it handles the job nicely.
I've used the 90 grain Sierra for the task and find it's a rather good round.
Any of the Hornady 100 or 110 grain bullets will also do fine as well.... Varget might be a good powder to start with.

Vapo, the .270 is a little overkill for varmints, but my varmint guns are a little on the heavy side to pack around the countryside! I don't currently own a "walking varmint gun" so to speak so I thought the .270 I use for whitetails might have to fill in for the time being. It will definitely lay the smack on a coyote for sure! I just so happen to have a keg of Varget that I use in my .223 and .22-250 bench rifles, it's an excellent powder. I basically only shoot Nosler BT's and they don't offer a .277 bullet less than 130 grains so there is no loading info for the lighter weight bullets in their manuals. Would you mind posting a load for the 110 gr. V-Max and Varget powder for the .270 Win. from a Hornady manual if they list one? I'd surely appreciate it! Thanks for the help!

Hornady lists 52.3 grains of Varget as a max load with the 110 grain V-Max.
24" barrel velocity is 3300'/sec. This will cause Wiley Coyote a bit of consternation all the way to 400 yards.

I just tried the 110 v-max in my browning 270 wsm yesterday and they sure shot well with R-19 and almost as good with H4350.Going to load some more up and try them out to 300 yds, most yds I can get at the range I shoot at,I posted these pic's on the short mag fourm also,I don't varmit hunt, just shoot the light bullets at the rifle range, there is a pic of the sst 130 gr that I hunt with.

My brother occasionally uses a 270 with 90-gr hollowpoints to hunt prairie dogs. The trick is to keep the m.v. under 3,000 fps. Now that I have a 270 wsm, I'm curious to see what loads will work on the critters. I guess I'm just Scottish enough to want a gun that I can hunt elk or prairie dogs with. I've got a great benchrest 22-250 that'll do the trick, as well as a bunch of rimfires, but I just like testing the limits of a gun's versatility.
