Hiya people,
Does anyone know a good load for my swedish mauser 6.5x55mm? I would like a hunting round but where do I start? Vmax, Speer, Nosler, Sierra, etc. what which why?!
Something around 129gr would be a good alrounder?
Any suggestions/info welcome.
Cheers,
Vic.

Assuming you're hunting deer a 129 grain Hornady interlock would be a good choice.
Other good choices would be sierra's gameking, Speer's hot core, Nosler's Ballistic tip or partician

Being all 6.5X55 Swedish mausers weren't created equal it would help to know what model , make your loading for . Some of the old military actions were on the weak side . For my model 70 I have had good results with a 120 gr Barnes XLC bullet at around 3000 fps +- .

If you have a Swedish M96 (or M38) you give up a bit over a "modern" rifle, but not enough so that any game animal you shoot with it will notice. I like pretty much any 120 grain spitzer SP and a fairly slow powder, such as IMR or H-4831. This will kill any whitetail that ever lived just about as far as you can hit them.

I haven't tried any of the 129 gr bullets in myh rifles- I figure if the rifle has a very fast twist rifling, I might as well use a heavy pencil shaped bullet
This isn't what you asked for, but I use a 140 gr bullet with around 46 gr of RL-22. Its a pretty close approximation of the spitzer military load for the rifle and is very accurate in my rifles.
