Default 300 Winchester Short Magnum

Anyone loading for this cartridge? I recently bought a Browning BAR in this caliber and love it but have only shot factory ammo. Bought a set of dies today and will collect the brass, bullets, powders, and primers in the near future. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

All I can tell you is to get several good manuals and start low and work up. The 180 grain bullet will most likely be your best choice for all around hunting. I prefer the Hornady manual and most often get my data from it. I have not loaded the Short Mag but have loaded many rounds for the Win Mag version. Good luck.

WW Brass Federal 215M primers and H4350 ..180 grain ballistic tip and or 180 grain Nosler partition should be all you need. Look at the Nosler # 5 manual and they should have the WSM loads printed

Get on the accurate arms website and request a free copy of their reloaders manual. Many of the factory loading use MAGPRO. This is produced by Accurate Arms. This powder was specifically designed for the Short Mag family of cartridges. According to my chrony I achieve nearly the same velocity as advertised by the factory. My rifle is bolt action and has a 24" tube. Your velocity will probably be a little lower in the BAR.
