The 550 is a great press , I have never had a problem with mine . I just don't use it much anymore being I prefer a single stage press . The only progressive I use a lot is my Mec 9000G for shotguns . If you want a lot of ammo in a hurry I would go with the progressive but I want more control of my loading .

Im going to agree with all the Dillon 550 guys here, you can't beat a dillon. They stand behind their products and their customer service is second to none. I love my RL550 and I bought it used. The original owner passed away and he loaded thousands of rounds on this machine. Ive been loading ammo on it going on 3 years now and haven't had one problem with it.Smooth as glass to operate. I also have a RCBS Rockchucker that I use just for working up loads. When I get one I like the 550 takes care of the production. I hadn't heard of Hornady's bad rep before this, but then again I don't know anyone who uses their equipment either. My back ground has been in the retail world and I can tell you if you don't take care of your customers then someone else will. Id stay away from the Hornady and go with the Dillon 550 or the RCBS Pro 2000. RCBS has been around a long time and makes quality products but I haven't used the 2000 so I can't tell you if it's a more or less complicated press to operate. As far as the 550 not auto indexing you will find if you take your time and follow the same rhythm that you can load alot of rounds even with having to index the wheel with your thumb or finger. Of course if you want to spend more money you can go to the RL 650 which I believe auto indexes but it will cost you a $100.00 more.
