Back in the day when we were big into pronghorn hunting, i had a 6.5 barrel put in my 30-06. It was 26" so for to give maximum speed. It was not a heavy barrel, so one could carry it for miles wandering the prairie. It worked good, and we killed some goats with that rifle.
The bullet used the most was the 120g Ballistic Tip. The primer was always the WLR. Some loads i managed to find: 59g RL22, 58g RL19, 57g IMR4831, and 58g H4831. These appear to be maximum loads. It has been years since i shot the rifle. Looks like zero was 310 yard or so..
