I am looking to reload for a .357 magnum and .38 special and can not find H4227 powder because it is no longer made. Since Hodgdon owns IMR there is a IMR4227? I have heard that it is the same and I have heard it isn't. Does anyone know what the real scoop is?

That is what I thought, so now going to have to find a second powder to use for the .357.

Why don't you start with IMR 4227. It is what I use for .357 and .44. Its burn rate is similar to H4227. I suspect you would get similar performance.

What kind of loads are you wanting to load for these cartridges? Blue Dot loads well for 357 hunting loads and Bullseye or 231 for 38 target loads.

I use IMR 4227 in my 41 Rem mag. It's a very consistent powder for pistol cartridges with larger case capacities. It's a slower pistol powder so in shorter barrels or designing a hot load it's not the best. Accuracy wise IMR 4227 and 2400 are about as good as I have found for my personal choices. It gets my vote.
