338 Caliber Deer Loads
#1
Anybody loading 180 grain, or 200 grain loads in there 338 Win mags, 340 Weatherbys, 338 RUM, 338 Lapuas, etc.? What powder? Typical group size?
Getting the itch to work up a new load for deer.
Used 160 grain TTSX in the past with good results, but can't leave well enough alone.
Plus with an extra week at camp this year some shooting to break up the scouting and workbees would be great

My best elk/deer load for a .338 Win Mag features a 210 Nosler Partition and Reloader 19. This load chronographs somewhere in the 2,950 range in a 24" barrel (M77 and M700), and a tiny bit higher in a 26" (M70). This load and another load using IMR4350 both have given good to very good accuracy. The Barnes has somehow never chronographed very close to it's published velocity for me, although the accuracy has been acceptable.
Have you tried the 200 Accubond yet?

Haven't tried the 200 Accubond yet. Lots of bullets catch my eye,but since I mainly hunt deer (haven't been able 2 chase elk yet).
200 Accubond or 210 Ttsx would be intersting. Wonder if 210 ttsx
Would expand much on deer? My 160 ttsx did,but no firsthand exp with the heavier Barnes.

a load I worked up for a friend in the 338 win mag, that normaly I don't approve of simply because target bullets do not work well on game with very few exceptions.
one of those exceptions is a .338 250 gr sierra match king.
He's trying extended range shooting, his rifle shoots this load very well for a factory rifle, I've witnessed bullet performance on a couple kills, its more than adequate.
anyways 250 gr smk/fed.215/75 gr. RE22 in his win. model 70 stainless classic it runs 2800 fps.

Thanks for all the scoop folks. Don't need the 338 for deer ,but since its one of my favorite guns I like to use it. Funny with all the different powders and bullet weights you can do a lot with the 338 caliber rounds. Have to do some research but u could probably throw some cast bullets out for a reduced bambi thumper...
