Well, further to all the recommendations for RL-19, I bought a canister and loaded some.

The RL-19 performance was nowhere close to what I got with N560 and 250 grain SGK.

I was fairly disappointed with the results, although this may be my own fault, at least in part. I tested 3 different loads from 72 to 74 grains , leaving about one minute between shots. The gun might have shot better, had I let it cool down more between shots, as it was a hot day.

Cost of reloading .338 Win Mag

I shoot a Browning A-bolt in a .338 Win Mag but have used factory ammo to this point. I have been considering taking up reloading for my rifles, in hopes that I could shoot a little more without breaking the bank. Could you guys give me some idea what it costs per round to reload for the .338?

Thanks in advance!

My best .338 Win Mag loads pushing 225 gr Noslers are with RL 19 and IMR 4831. Both powders have worked very well, but the Reloader powder gives me slightly higher velocity variation due to big outside temperature changes (70 degrees at the range vs 20 degrees in elk camp - yes I take a chronograph along to camp). I have an OK load with 225 Barnes and IMR 4350, but the Noslers have always shot better for me.

IMR 4831 has been my best find for 225s
4350 has been better powder for me with 210 gr. and 200 gr. accubonds.

I am sure rifles are different but this what I have found.
R-22 just did not give me the results as 4831

ditto on the noslers vs Barnes

I have never had any kind of good luck with RL-22 or 19...in anything. Won't use either of them again.

My brother has had the best luck in his 338 Winny with IMR 4831 for 225's (his rifle is a Win Mod 70) but he did have OK performance with H4350...but I can't find the load data...know he used Fed 215 Primers.
