Default XTP for deer?

Does anyone have any experience with Hornady's .44mag 240-grain XTP bullets on whitetail deer? Any good loads to share?

I use the 300 grain XTP in my muzzleloader.
The deer don't go far when hit with an XTP.

My son uses them on deer and he says they are great . He uses a 1894 marlin with a 20" barrel so its moving quite a bit faster than a handgun would .

I have shot deer with the 300 gr XTP out of a 44 mag and they always gave me complete penetration and great performance. The 240 I've never shot deer with but I know a couple people who like them very well for deer hunting. With and bullet in 44 mag. I like H110 and W296.

Good luck

I've seen 2 deer that were shot with 240gr XTP's out of a muzzleloader. Both bullets were recovered, one bullet lost the jacket just before it lodged. Both deer were shot through the shoulder angling back into the vitals. The bullet that held together retained 94% of it's weight, with a perfect mushroom. Handgun velocities will be lower so the bullets won't expand quite the same. The XTP's are great deer bullets as far as I'm concerned.
