Default is it worth the risk.

I am going to get a 308 ar this spring. I have been wanting to reload but worry about risk of trashing a 1k+ rifle. Is it really worth the risk to shoot reloaded ammo out of a AR rifle. Are they less likely or more likely to cause issues then a normal rifle.

I have heard that Semi-auto's in general don't take reload's too well. That may have been from years past. In my opinion, its worth the cost to stay with factory ammo.

No. Not worth it. Keep shooting factory. And mail me your brass.

Risk? Risk what? If the gun blows up, who really gives a crap about the gun? What about whether you've got all your appendages are still attached.

Seriously, though, if you did as much thinking and worrying about your coursework as you do about the risks of handloading vs. factory ammo, you wouldn't be worried about not passing your classes. Handloading, when done properly, is really no more dangerous than shooting factory ammo. If you're not confident in your ability to make safe ammo, then don't handload. Stick with paying too much for mediocre factory ammo.

Oh, another reason for you not to handload is that it takes a lot of time to do it right. Time which would be better spent studying I think.

Depends if you know what you are doing when you reload. The answer depends entirely on that.

My thing is I have never done it and do not know anyone who does it. I am thinking maybe get a cheapo handgun or single shot rifle and do it for some time on that then I know that I can do it without trashing a 1000+ rifle or hurting myself or others.
