I tried the moly thing a few years back. Messy to work with. After cleaning the guns it took about 20 rds or so to build up enough moly in the bore to get them shooting again unless previoulsy treating the bore with the moly bore prep. When cleaning the guns it took forever to get the moly out of the bore and had to use Kroil ( very smelly, unless your into that sort of thing). Not to mention that moly is hygroscopic and can suck moisture into the bore. I used to shoot the WW supremes with the lubalox coating in my 06 because I got about 10 boxes at $7 a box, I won't be going back to them either. Some guys really like the moly, some don't. Shoot em and see what you get.

If one is religious about prepreping a barrel, and consistently shoots moly and is diligent in working up a load (not according to manuals), then I can see a lot of plus's with moly. I went down this road from 2000-2002. I just didn't like the hassle. Also if you clean out a barrel back down to bare metal again, erratic performance may happen, and in fact if you built up a load that is on the edge of a hotrod, you can get pressure signs shooting in a bare barrel again.. Also, I had erratic performance after shooting 100 rounds or so. Lastly, its slightly hydroscopic.

A few real advantages I can see is true varmit shooters that pop off a bunch of rounds with some real barrel burners. I have seen 22-250's AI's with over 4000 rounds that was loaded full tilt and no huge throat errosion. Where I have seen 22-250AI with 1000 without moly with significant throat errosion.

I agree with BC, you really need to commit to using it and not switch back and forth. Personally I didn't care for it at all. We shoot a ton of pds and I suppose it benefits in barrel life but we just take along alot of guns and alternate alot. The moly was an experiment a few years ago and a messy one at that.

If you don't like the moly, it will tumble off pretty easy.

Nearly every shooter that I know was sucked up in the Moly experiment a few years ago, and now I don't know anyone that still uses it. It was a bad experience for most of us.

I've been using it since was first introduved, in all my rifles, hunting and benchrest...great stuff, my BORDEN built 6PPC has over 2'000 shots in it and still shoots the same as the day I got it, all my hunting rifles shoot X-bullets that are moly coated by myself, stopped about all the copper and the accuracy is amazing for -bullets//the barrels are supposed to be a little dirty, that's what seals the little pores, cracks, grooves and every other mark...I still don't see why everyone doesn't use it.. I have a 22/250 that has 6'000 rounds down it and it still puts them right in the dot...give it a try with an open mind and judge for yourself...
