RE: Nosler Partitions
I wouldn' t waste money on Nosler Partitions for deer. I use 117 grain Sierra Game King boattails in my .257 Roberts for deer, and at one time had a string of 17 one-shot kills on deer with the load. Last year, it took two shots on a buck, so that ended the string. If you are set on Nosler bullets, try the ballistic tip bullets for deer.
I have used Nosler Partition bullets on bear, but usually prefer to use higher cost bullets like the Swift A-frame or Trophy Bonded. |
RE: Nosler Partitions
Bigcountry-I just received my second 300ultra and guess what it also loves r-25 and hates h-1000.With 95gr of r-25 it is averaging under 1/2" at 100 yards with a muzzle velocity of 3395fps.This is with ballistic tips as groups open up to 1-1/4" with partitions.Barrel like my other ultramag is a pac-nor.

RE: Nosler Partitions
I really like the Hornady 117 gr btsp Interlok, out of my 257 Roberts 700 ADL at 2800 fps I average 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups at 100 yds. Powder of choice is I4350 or H380 sitting on top of wlr primers. That' s with a 22" barrel, if your shooting a 25-06 you will probably be able to get around 3000-3100 fps with a 24-26" barrel.

RE: Nosler Partitions
Use either of the Noslers if you choose.....however my experience with the .25-06 is to use the Hornady 120 Grain HP...they really do a great job on deer.

RE: Nosler Partitions
I use the 120 Partition in a .257 rob Don' t need to try or use anything else.Either Nosler bullet in weights of 100 to 120gr should work fine for Deer.

RE: Nosler Partitions
The partition would be a great choice for the 25-06 either 115 or 120 grain. I love hearing stories about them being solidly built and made for real big animals...and that they won' t expand on small animals. My younger brother has killed 3 straight bucks with his 7 mag w/160 partitions and never had one move and the blood spray from the impact was incredible. The front end will expand violently on a deer or antelope or any other animal for at least the under 33 calibers. A 140 grain would be my first choice in a 7 rem mag for deer and antelope.

RE: Nosler Partitions
I don' t know if anyone says they won' t expand well oldelkhunter, just might not be the best suited bullet for the job.

RE: Nosler Partitions
Bigcountry, hmm lets see. They drop deer on the spot and penetrate completely and the bullets are among the most accurate I have shot from the bench. What else do you require a bullet to do?
|
RE: Nosler Partitions
Bigcountry, you can probably tell I like partitions...they have served me well anytime they have been used and have shot more than sufficiently well out of any of my rifles... Now if my hunting were relegated to 300 yard shooting out in wide open country and I was shooting a very fast caliber my choice might change. In my 7 mag and 280 if it were a combo elk and deer hunt and all I had in the guns were 140 grain partitions I would not lose one minutes sleep or hesitate in using them.
