I was looking to load a 300win mag a little closer to a 30-06 in recoil with it still being accurate. I looked in an "old" reloading manual and found a load which may work. The load is as follows:
Bullet : .308" dia, .225 sec. den., .423 ballistic coef., and weighs 150 Gr.
Powder : 760 powder 64.0 to 68.0 grains (bullet speed muzzle:2732-2973)
Primer: CCI 250
I calculated the bullet muzzle energy for this load and it is around 2610 ft-lb. The 180 grain 30-06 had around 2500 ft-pound (both muzzle energy). Some 300 win mags show 3100-3300 ft lb with 180 grain bullets.
Would comparable muzzle energys translate to comparable felt recoil?
Would this be a good deer load? (It seems like it to me and it is not too fast so expansion should be ok)

Thanks Ridge Runner! Yes it is recoil issues. The rifle is a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless which is only 6.5 LBS. I plan on putting a scope on it which is near 2 LBS. I will be loading the standard 180 grain load for elk but a lot of my hunting is deer hunting with shots 400 Max (and usually under 200). I am planning on getting a very good scope and would like to use it for both but don't want to beat up my shoulder If it isn't necessary.
I will try the decellerator pad though, thanks again!
