Hey guys,

What is the most popular powder used in the .308 Win?

I'll be shooting most 165gr bullets but some 180gr bullets too.

I'm looking over a couple of reloading manuals and all I'm seeing is

Nosler

BL-C(2) Never heard of this powder, who makes this?
H380 Is this Hogdon?
Viht N140 Never heard of this powder, who makes this?

Lyman

N150 Never heard of this one, who makes this?
N550 Same here to never heard of this one either.

What are you guys getting the best accuracy out of?

The "N" powders are made by Norma...V powders are made by Vihtahouri ( sp) .??.. Bl C2 and H380 are Hodgdon

I don't load for the .308, but have always heard that IMR 4064 is a favored powder for that case... It works very well in my 7mm-08 with 140 grain bullets..

Tom... My favorite load for my (Dad's) 308 is with Win. 748.
BL-C(2) is made by Hodgdon.
H380 is Hodgdon
N 140 is by VihtaVuori
N 150 and N 550 are by VihtaVouri also.........

Theres probably at least a dozen that are very good. I always used ww748, IMR 4064.

IMR4064, Varget, and BL-C 2 are my favs. Varget for some reason is dirty in a 308. Lots of powder residue. I had guys at Sierra also say they have noticed this. 4064 is a good alternative about same burning rate.

Thanks guys! I'm getting ready for a possible block on ammunition and stocking up on the bare essentials. My .308 won't arrive until June/July so I'm just making sure I can feed her when she gets here.

I have a buddy that does. Seems just just like IMR4064.

Currently RL 15 is my powder of choice.

For Years IMR 4895 was my my match powder, with 155 Sierra MK. Norma 202 was also aexcellent powder but sometimes hard to get.
H322 was also good with 150/155 grain bullets.
Benchmark or Reloader 10 today is good with 150/155 bullets.

Varget and Reloader 15 are excellent...............all around powders for the 308 win...........but some reason IMR 4895 is my powder of Choice for the 308 Win.

In order of what I use the most.
Varget
IMR 4064
Winchester 748
The 308 just seems to shoot pretty well with a lot of different powders. For pure hunting loads though Varget is hard to beat.
