Default Question for Speer Grand Slams

Just got my reloading kit and got a Speer reloading manual too. Got to looking at the Grand Slam bullet for the .308 and it looks like they make it in 150gr. and 180gr., anyone have any advice on either of these bullets for whitetail within 200 yards? I' ll be using Win. 748 powder and CCI 250 primers starting out at the low end of the powder suggestions and work up from there. Thanks! CAN' T WAIT TO GET STARTED!!!

For whitetails the Speer Grand Slam bullets in either weight will work just fine, Savage. I personally prefer the 180 grain, but that is because I also use it for bear hunting. I have not had one fail me yet on either bear or deer.

Pick up a box of each and see which one shoots best in your gun. The 150 grain is plenty of bullet for deer if it shoots well in your gun.

If your going from the Speer manual, it list the CCI LRM primer for use with 748. However Winchester/Olin' s data lists Standard LR primers. Using CCI or Federal primers I recomend you use the magnum primers, for Winchester' s WLR primers work just fine using 748 or H380 in my 06 and .307. Honestly I' ve not noticed any appreciable differences between the LR magnums and the WLR' s, they tend to run a little hotter.

Both Hornady and Nosler have stated their intentions to introduce a bonded bullet this spring.......I' d relax a bit and when they come out I' d test the Speers against Hornady' s and Noslers' s

You can bet your bottom Dollar that .308 caliber will be on the market first.....and the top sellers will be 150 grain and 165 grain.......for those opf us that want a 200 grainer, we' ll have to wait till next year

The Speer Grand Slam has been one of the most accurate bullets I' ve ever used. They' re certainly not junk, that' s for sure.
